ONE SMALL STEP OF COURAGE CAN LEAD TO DARING TO SOAR

Chloe Gracey, bereavement counsellor holding a mug of tea

Life can be really challenging

Hi, I'm Chloë

Sometimes it is just the relentless small stuff that grinds you down over time. Or it may be that you have suddenly found yourself trying to cope with a distressing and life-changing event.

If this is you, perhaps I can help...

About Me...

I am an integrative counsellor and accredited life coach, with a background in both nursing and teaching. I am based on the Kent/Sussex border, and when I am not working, I enjoy volunteering, and love to spend time with family and friends where you will often find me immersed in nature, or enjoying creativity in different ways.

I am a Waverley Abbey College (Middlesex University) trained counsellor and Animas Transformational Coach (ICF accredited), registered with both BACP and ACC. As a former nurse and teacher, I bring unique experience to the therapeutic relationship, with an awareness of some of the associated pressures of  working within schools or the NHS.

My approach to therapy...

To ensure  an individually tailored approach to the therapy or coaching, I integrate a range of different styles of working including Gestalt, solution focused techniques, CBT, creative therapies, Transactional Analysis, person centred and psychodynamic therapy approaches.

I work with clients on loss and bereavement, exploring anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, family dynamics and resulting issues, as well as gently uncovering triggers or negative thoughts from the past which impact the clients in the here and now. I help clients find a way to work through their loss and move towards a light at the end of the tunnel. Whilst the initial focus of Dare to Soar is on loss and bereavement it is not limited to this area; it may be that other issues become apparent, and those, too, can also be explored, should you wish (see Things I can help with).

I am committed to ensuring you feel unhurried, safe, seen and heard Rather than advising, I will work collaboratively with you, calmly and empathically supporting and encouraging you to take next steps towards a more manageable life.

I offer 1-1 online counselling and coaching, with options for both short and longer-term work; additionally, for those who prefer to meet face-to-face, I offer Café Counselling in Tunbridge Wells.

“Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”

What is the difference between
counselling and coaching?

Counselling (also known as therapy or psychotherapy)

In counselling, we will explore background, thoughts, feelings, emotions and behaviours. It may draw on the past, your childhood or traumatic events, considering the impact of these earlier experiences, as well as examining what is happening in the here and now. This tends to be longer term work for up to 6+ months, but can be discussed and reviewed every few weeks to see how you are progressing.

Coaching

Coaching is goal-focused, essentially looking at what is going on for you right now and what you would like to achieve within a few weeks: this will be broken down into small, practical steps. It is client-led and predominantly future-focused,  though noticing patterns of behaviour or thoughts which may have originated in the past may be briefly explored.  If issues arise that appear to be distressing and unresolved, it might be advisable to switch to a counselling contract. Coaching tends to be short term, generally 6-8 weeks.
